Joining the world in celebrating Mental Health Week, the MTBA Youth Department, Arkong Youth Fellowship celebrated World Mental Health Day on October 9 at Arkong Youth Hall under the theme ‘Comprehending Mental Health.’
The programme was divided into two sessions, wherein Merenchila, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counselling Psychologist and Counsellor, Childline 1098 Mokokchung spoke on ‘Make mental health & wellbeing for all a global priority,’ in the first session.
In her talk, Merenchila drew light on the factors that affect one’s mental health. She laid emphasis on how these factors can influence one’s perception, expectation, opinion, and decision-making. She further talked about how and why mental health is not given as much importance as physical health. Justifying the statement, she said, “we do not give importance to what is not visible and since mental health issues are not given attention as much as we should.”
The second session was on the topic ‘Mental health and the scripture,’ which was deliberated on by Alemrenla Jamir, Educator and Human Development Analyst. While speaking on the topic, she pointed out the difference between the human spirit and the divine spirit and said that the human ego is nothing but human, which develops in a person right after they are born. As a human development analyst, through years of experience dealing with people, she stated that the most common mental health issues that the Nagas have are anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.
The programme concluded with a prayer session initiated by the Youth Mentor of Arkong Youth Fellowship.
