Wokha DPDB approves to host annual Banana Festival
Wokha, January 10 (MExN): The Wokha District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) approved to celebrate Banana festival in the District as an annual event. This was decided during the DPDB meeting held on January 10, stated a DIPR report.
The date for the Banana festival 2025 will be finalized during the next DPDB meeting, after getting feedback from the farmers and Horticulture department, DC Wokha Vineet Kumar IAS who is also the Vice Chairman DPDB Wokha said.
Responding to the question on the status of banana plantation at Wokha district by MLA and Vice Chairman DPDB Wokha, Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, Horticulture officer Wokha informed the House that “presently around 863 hectares of land are under banana cultivation with both commercial and local variety.” He further said that Banana is grown in all the three regions (upper, lower and middle) of Wokha district whole year round.
MLA and Chairman DPDB Wokha, Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe observed the “DPDB platform as Mini Assembly” and emphasised on the need and importance of participation by every member. He reminded that everyone should share their thoughts and opinions for the betterment of the district.DC Wokha reminded the Government departments under Wokha district to provide the land status of their respective offices and for obtaining land pattas latest by January 31, 2025, for those without any litigation.
In the meeting the House recommended for creation of health sub center at Nitsuyan village. OC Fire, Francis Singsit highlighted on fire safety preparedness. Land Resources and Fisheries department were entrusted for presentation of their departmental activities in the next DPDB meeting. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks from the chair.
Following DPDB meeting, another meeting was convened by ADC Wokha where work distribution pertaining to celebration of Republic day 2025 was deliberated. In this regard mass social work will be conducted on January 25, he informed. ADC Wokha sought the cooperation of the HODs for celebrating Republic day without any hitches.
