LONGLENG, MARCH 20 (MExN): An outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) has been confirmed at a piggery farm in Yachem Village, Longleng district, prompting authorities to impose containment measures to curb the spread of the highly contagious disease.
According to the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Longleng, laboratory tests have verified the presence of the viral disease, which has led to multiple pig deaths at the affected farm. In response, officials have designated containment zones, including an "infected zone" covering a 1-kilometer radius from the affected area and a broader "surveillance zone" extending up to 10 kilometers.
The DC imposed strict restrictions, including a complete ban on the movement and trade of pigs, piglets, pork, and pig-derived products from the infected zone until further notice. Additionally, officials have mandated rigorous monitoring of pig farms, markets, and slaughterhouses within the surveillance zone.
The DC has urged farmers, meat vendors, and the general public to report any unusual pig deaths or suspected ASF cases to the local veterinary department immediately. The DC emphasized that public cooperation is crucial to containing the outbreak.
The administration also warned that failure to comply with these containment measures could result in legal action under applicable laws.
