Kohima, May 21 (MExN): A three-day Training of Trainers of District Community Mobilisers (DCMs) and Block ASHA Coordinators (BACs) on Expanded Packages of Services under Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) at Ayushman Bharat-Health & Wellness Center (AB-HWC) started at the Conference Hall, DUDA Guest House, Kohima on May 21.
Exhorting the participants, Dr Akuo Sorhie, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Nagaland stated that the DCMs, BACs and ASHAs are like the forerunners in the programme and plays a vital role in between the community and the health care and so the group of participants present are a team to be reckon with.

She mentioned that with the paradigm shift which envisage towards the universal health coverage, to bring health care to all, reaching to the unreached population with complete health package and with ASHAs who plays a key role, being a member of the primary health team in the Health & Wellness Center has got much wider assignment under the CPHC objectives. Therefore, their roles and responsibilities have increased many folds over the years from a link worker or social mobilisers to a bigger role under the CPHC and so also for the DCMs and BACs being their Coordinators, she stated.
Dr Akuo expressed hope that this training will further strengthen their knowledge in tackling the added assignment with much more confident to provide quality health care services by addressing the primary Health care for all at their level. She appealed them to recommit in giving the highest priority to this flagship programme and “transform the public health care delivery system in our state.”
Dr Mereninla Senlem, State Program Officer, NHM, Nagaland while giving a overview of the Extended Health Packages under CPHC said that, with the concept of National Health Policy of Universal Health Coverage it is all about delivering health care services at the doorstep of the people and for which ASHAs plays an important role and DCMs and BACs responsibility is to motivate and facilitate them.
She added that seeing the shift in the disease trend from communicable to non-communicable and looking at the disease burden statistics have shown that, 80% of the deaths and disease burden are now due to non-communicable diseases.
Chairing the programme, Dr Manyau Phom, Deputy Director, NHM, Nagaland said that as ToTs, they have a responsibility of further training more than 2000 ASHAs in the State, and unless they are trained properly, they will not be able to fulfill the target that Nagaland have and so for a comprehensive training the DCMs & BACs have to be thoroughly trained. He also added that the ASHAs are the one closest and part of the community, where all the health indicators are assets by the Government and mentioned the team based incentives which ASHAs is also part of the team. In this connection, Dr Manyau appealed the DCMs & BACs present to make sure that all the health indicators are improved in the State.
