Ashtalakshmi Darshan Youth Exchange underway at NU

Medziphema, February 3 (MExN): The inaugural program of the Ashtalakshmi Darshan Youth Exchange Programme was conducted in Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus on February 2. The Ashtalakshmi Darshan Youth Exchange Programme which is an initiative of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) and North East Council (NEC) is being hosted by Nagaland University, Medziphema campus during 1– 14 February. The program was attended by 40 students and 4 teacher in-charges from Kerala and Ladakh in addition to faculty members, Officers, and students from Medziphema campus of Nagaland University.

The program was chaired by Prof. J. Longkumer, Associate Dean, Students Welfare and Nodal officer Ashtalakshmi Darshan Program, Nagaland University, Medziphema campus. The welcome address was pronounced by Prof. Pauline Alila, Dean, School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Medziphema Campus, Nagaland University.

Som Kamei, Planning Advisor, North East Council in his special address, stated that the student participants should try to learn the different cultures as it is a great opportunity and also to experience the hospitality of the people of Nagaland. He also pointed out that Ashtalakshmi Darshan Youth Exchange Programme is a key initiative championed by Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), to connect youth across India with the Northeast.

 

A short speech was delivered by the Prof. Dipak Sinha, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Medziphema Campus, Nagaland University, wherein he applauded the students for their participation and encouraged them to learn about the cultural diversity and to grasp knowledge at the maximum. He also encouraged the students to be good ambassadors and channels of connection with the North East Region (NER) and the rest of the country.

Brief outline of the itinerary was highlighted by Dr Kevinituo Bier, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Soil Science, Medziphema Campus, Nagaland University and the presentation to the delegates was given by Neipusimeu Yalie and Watisenla Longkumer.

The visiting student representatives also gave special speeches where they highlighted the important features and attractions of the respective states. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Dr  S. Pavan, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Entomology, Medziphema Campus, Nagaland University. Among others, he thanked Secretary, NEC, Som Kamei, Adviser, Planning, NEC, Bamin Tarang, Director, HRD&E who is the main point of contact from NEC. He also thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and Finance Officer of Nagaland University as well as PVC, Medziphema Campus and Deputy Registrar, Medziphema Campus. He also made special mention of Harun Rashid of Balmer Lawrie for facilitating the booking of flight tickets for delegates.
