
DIMAPUR, JUNE 9 (MExN): The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services today informed that the Assam Government has lifted the ban on live pig transportation subject to observance of relevant SOPs in accordance with the Transport of Animals Rule, 1978, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 etc.
“Both individual Health Certificate (not more than 7 days between testing and loading in the wagons or trucks) and Transit Certificate ( certifying the condition of transporting the animals are complied with) issued by officer not below the rank of Assistant Director, AH & Vet Services from the point of origin” would be required, it informed. Further, it stated that a Veterinary Doctor, AH & Vet Services, Nagaland manning the inter-state check-gate will examine the pigs on arrival at the state border.
Concerned parties have been asked to write to the State Governmentof the sourced animals and the said State Government should write to the Government of Nagaland and Assam informing that animals are free from ASF and also the concerned party shall inform the OC of the respective Police Stations at the inter-state border at least 72 hrs prior to the arrival of the animals.
The department stated that strict adherence of SOPs is enforced while bringing live pigs from outside the state to prevent spread of ASF. It cautioned that concerned parties failing to comply with the SOPs shall be dealt with stern action as per relevant acts. Any persons interested in livestock trading can obtain the detailed SOPs from the directorate of Veterinary Services during office hours.
