Assam-Nagaland to withdraw from border within 24 hrs

Assam and Nagaland have agreed to withdraw its police forces from the contested territories in Tsurangkong, Mokokchung district within 24 hours.

The decision was made on July 31 in Dimapur at a Ministerial-level meeting of the two neighbouring States, which was also attended by the respective Chief Secretaries.

Assam was represented by Education Minister Ranuj Pegu and Nagaland was represented by Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton. 

An excerpt of the agreement signed by the two sides read, "It is decided by both sides that the security personnel of both states shall simultaneously move back from their present locations to their respective base camps. The simultaneous withdrawal of the security personnel shall begin immediately and shall be completed in the next 24 hours as far as possible."
