
Dimapur, February 28 (MExN): The Kohima Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) organised a wreath laying ceremony at Kohima on Tuesday to remember and honour its Braveheart Late Rifleman Surendra Lal Arya.
Rifleman Arya took his last breath on February 28, 1996 while under treatment for the injuries sustained during a fight with the insurgents at Kalain Chara area in Cachar district of Assam on November 22, 1995 in and later took his last breath on February 28, 1996 while under treatment for the injuries, informed a press release from PRO (Def).
His wife, Kamala Devi, connected with the Battalion virtually from Haldwani, Uttrakhand to witness the wreath laying ceremony. Later, the Unit Commandant interacted with Kamala Devi and paid his respect and naman on behalf of the Battalion.
Meanwhile, HQ 25 Sect of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) felicitated 61 children including 46 boys and 15 girls of TCL region who passed the Sainik School Entrance exam in Arunachal Pradesh on February 27.
According to the release, coaching classes were conducted at respective Battalion HQs, in which the aspirants had attended with full sincerity and zeal. The continuous joint effort resulted in selection of these children. Commandants of the respective Battalions conveyed their best wishes and encouraged the selected children to be role models for other children and defence service aspirants, it added.
In Dimapur, the Dimapur Battalion of Assam Rifles distributed ration and food items to the residents of Master Colony, Dimapur on February 25. The families were affected by fire incident on the night of February 25 which engulfed nearly 30 houses, depriving 70 families of their livelihood.
Assam Rifles distributed essentials items like rice, wheat and sugar to the residents to mitigate the hardship of the people. The Secretary of Village Council thanked the Assam Rifles for its help and support while the GB of the village expressed his gratitude towards the Battalion for the continuous support extended to the people, the release stated.
