Assam Rifles engages students at GMS Salangtem

MOKOKCHUNG, April 27 (MExN): In an effort to introduce young students to the Armed Forces way of life, personnel from the 12th Battalion, The Assam Rifles, and the Zila Sainik Board, Mokokchung, engaged with students of Government Middle School (GMS) Salangtem on Saturday.

The program, held under the theme “Living Life – The Armed Forces Way,” was led by Rfn/GD Roshan Poudel, Rfn/GD Mejatemjen, Rfn/GD Meyisunep, and Hav/Clerk Nungsangrenla Jamir, along with Lieutenant Colonel Joy Choudhury. The session aimed to inspire students to adopt values such as discipline, resilience, and a sense of purpose both during and beyond service in the armed forces.

Sharing personal insights, the speakers highlighted the daily life of soldiers, emphasizing the importance of passion, physical well-being, and living with meaning. A key moment of the event was a musical performance by Rfn/GD Meyisunep from the Jazz Band of the 12th Battalion, which was warmly received by the students.

Following the main interaction, students were given the opportunity for one-on-one discussions with the resource persons, where they could ask questions and seek guidance.

The school expressed its gratitude to Lieutenant Colonel Choudhury and the Assam Rifles team for their commitment and active involvement in the program.

The event was organized under the 10 Bagless Days module, an initiative by the Department of School Education in line with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The module seeks to expose students to various occupations beyond traditional classroom learning, fostering a greater appreciation of vocational education and the dignity of labor.

Officials noted that the success of such initiatives hinges on strong community participation, which has become increasingly vital to the education system.
