Col G P Singh, VSM, Commandant, 32 Assam Rifles, along with other officials and patients during the medical camp held at Shamator district on March 25.
Shamator, March 25 (MExN): The 32 Assam Rifles Shamator Battalion organised a free medical camp at Shamator under the aegis of Headquarters 7 Sector, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), on March 25.
A team of doctors led by Commandant Col G P Singh, VSM, treated around 500 patients and provided free first aid and other medical services during the camp. The Shamator Town Public Forum (STPF) also assisted in the conduct of the programme.
The camp covered a range of medical services, including dental, paediatric, orthopaedic, gynaecological, general medicine and dermatological consultations.
President of STPF, Kiumehan Yimkhiung, expressed gratitude to Col G P Singh, the team of doctors and the Assam Rifles for their humanitarian service to the people of Shamator. He also appreciated their continued support and expressed hope for similar initiatives in the future.
He further urged the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Paiwang Konyak, and Chief Minister of Nagaland, Dr Neiphiu Rio, to urgently deploy adequate numbers of doctors, nurses and medical staff to the District Hospital Shamator.
Yimkhiung stated that the hospital is currently functioning with only one MBBS doctor and a dental doctor, along with a few nurses, leading to severe difficulties for residents in accessing even basic medical treatment.
