Dimapur, July 15 (MExN): 37 Assam Rifles conducted operations on July 8 and 10 in Dimapur leading to recovery of weapon, ammunition, and apprehension of one arms peddler with weapon. On July 8, operation was launched at a house in Toulazuma village based on confirmed information regarding presence of an armed NSCN (IM) cadre. One illegal .32 pistol with two magazines and six rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the house, which was cordoned and searched in the presence of police representative, informed a press release from Assam Rifles. The NSCN (IM) cadre was absconding from his house, it said, adding the brother of the accused confirmed that the recovered items belonged to Vete Venhuh, an active Civil Wing member of NSCN (IM) holding the rank of ‘Tatar’. The recovered items were handed over to Dimapur East Police Station the same day, it was stated. In the other operation on July 10, an arms peddler was intercepted in general area of 7th Mile, Chumukedima. Further search of the individual led to recovery of one .22 pistol with magazine and three live rounds of .22 ammunition, the AR press note stated. “The intercepted arms peddler was apparently attempting to sell the recovered weapon, by linking up with a potential customer." The apprehended individual identified as Chepetso Krome was handed over to Diphupar Police Station on July 10 itself.
