KOHIMA, AUG 20 (DIPR): The Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) today, unanimously passed a resolution reiterating its earlier resolutions for increasing the number of seats in the State Assembly from 60 to 80 and the number of seats from the State to the Lok Sabha from 1 to 3 and Rajya Sabha from 1 to 2. This resolution was made keeping in view the emerging proposals for proportionately enlarging the Houses of Parliament and State Legislatures to actuate 33% reservation for women.
The house also adopted a resolution urging the Centre to exempt Nagaland from the Delimitation Act, 2002. The resolution highlighted several reasons for the exemption like the district territorial boundaries, anomalies in 2001 census population figures and special status of Nagaland under Article 371-A of the Constitution.
Both the resolutions were proposed by the Leader of the House Neiphiu Rio and passed through a voice vote.
