“We have come to such a stage in our journey as a society, where we are so overwhelmed and confused. I regret to say we are in a directionless state, overwhelmed by self-righteousness and influenced by so many activities going on around us.” Medo Yhokha, Advisor to Technical Education & Elections, Government of Nagaland, on Tuesday maintained that “we literally get no time to think about ourselves with positivity” while citing that “for all the wrongs and faults that are happening, we put the blame on the other group, other communities while forgetting that we are very much part of the society.”

He was addressing the Assignment of TaFMA (Task Force for Music & Arts) District partners for the four new districts namely Tseminyu, Shamator, Niuland and Chümoukedima at RCEMPA Foyer where the four new district partners were handed over LEDs and officially declared as TaFMA district partners.

Emphasizing that it is time to give ourselves a reality check, he articulated that, “until and unless we start with ourselves, things are not going to happen…the dreams and aspirations we have for ourselves, our families and communities.”

The moment we keep silently endorsing to all the groups, activities and negative things that are happening, he stated concern that “we are going to hand it over to the next generation.” Therefore, he asserted that as musicians and artists who can influence and engage the minds of people and whose medium of art is very effective, “they can communicate and influence what the society is looking for.” “I hope and wish that with your induction as district partners, let us move together and see that we see a brighter light and a brighter future for tomorrow.” He further challenged them to be the best ambassador of themselves and of TaFMA.

In the meantime, he congratulated the four new districts while expressing that “it has been a long cry and desire of our people to have a separate identity where we can stand on our feet.” He also commended TaFMA for providing the platform to Naga youths who are enthusiastically pursuing music and arts to make a living by way of grooming and fine-tuning their skills and talents. “You are doing yeoman work for the society, the government and the young people,” he added.

He particularly stated his appreciation to TaFMA for providing “a ray of hope and vision that somewhere down the line, there is a bright light” especially when the whole world was under the realm of darkness and hopelessness created by COVID-19.

Theja Meru, Advisor to TaFMA spoke about the role of TaFMA District Partners and officially introduced and declared the new district partners. He also highlighted that the distribution of LEDs was carried out under the CSR program of Casio India and have been given to several empanelled music schools and institutes. Under the vision and encouragement of the chief minister of Nagaland, he noted that the music industry is doing very well. “There is so much to do but the sky is the limit”, he added.

He further announced that TaFMA will soon be signing a Memorandum of Understanding with ZANA Group of Hotels and Resorts. With the signing of the MoU, he hoped that some of the artists from Nagaland will soon get to perform in some hotels and earn big money. To the district partners, he said, “you will represent us to the hungry young people, waiting for opportunities” and wished them well.

Earlier, Dr Hovithal Sothu, Project Director, TaFMA gave the welcome address and also chaired the programme while Azi Rudy presented a special number.
