Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio assured the completion of astro turf football grounds in all districts of the state within the next two to three years.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Nagaland Super League (NSL) at the newly completed Chümoukedima Football Stadium, Rio expressed his government’s commitment to promoting football and providing world-class facilities for players.
The Chief Minister informed the gathering that six districts already have astro turf facilities, with plans underway to ensure all districts have similar infrastructure soon.
‘We will give equal opportunities to players to train and compete on the best grounds, so they can match any team at the Northeast, national, or even international level,’ he held.
Highlighting the efforts behind the successful completion of the stadium, Rio commended the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, the engineering team, and the contractors for their dedication.
The stadium was completed ahead of schedule to ensure it was ready for the league, he maintained,
Rio linked the inauguration of the league with the legacy of Dr Talimeren Ao, the first Naga to captain the Indian football team at the 1948 London Olympics.
The opening of the stadium and the launch of the Nagaland Super League (NSL) on January 28 coincided with the birth anniversary of the legendary footballer.
He urged the youth to emulate such achievements by maintaining focus, discipline, and determination.
The NSL, featuring seven franchise teams, marks a significant step forward in the state’s football landscape and Rio revealed that the league’s champion will qualify for the Northeast League and subsequently compete at the national level, providing a platform for local talent to shine.
