ASU 29th biennial general conference underway

The 29th biennial general conference of the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) in commemoration with 75 years of Kohima Sub Division Students Conference and 50 Years of ASU under the theme ‘Reflections’ got underway at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama on April 23.

During the introductory session, Medo Yhokha, Advisor Technical Education and Election, Nagaland stressed on the need to put a collective and community effort to build a better and vibrant society.

Yhokha, who is also former president of ASU also emphasized on the need to set better vision for better tomorrow. He also challenged the people to carry forward honesty and responsibility and pass to the next generation for posterity. The Advisor urged the students to support each other and always exercise positive attitude.

He observed that a time has come not to sit over the issues but to stand together to address various issues confronting the society. “We have to thoroughly re-orient ourselves and work to change for a better tomorrow,” he said. “Let us take our responsibility boldly with commitment and determination,” he said.

Greeting was shared by Angami Youth Organization (AYO) president Kekhrie Pfukha while ASU 1st President Kevisiezolie Suohu spoke on “ASU as envisioned by the pioneers.” Kidima Students' Union presented special number. The session was chaired by ASU speaker Ketouletuo Kuotsu while welcome address was delivered by Southern Angami Students' Union President Virato Naleo.

Meanwhile, Nagaland's Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will grace the inaugural session on April 24 at 9:30 AM.

Cultural session will take place at 1:00 PM with the theme “Cultural Vibrance: Fostering brotherhood". Neingulo Krome, Secretary General Naga Peoples' Movement for Human Rights will be the cultural guest. Academic season have been scheduled at 4:00 PM with Temjen Imna Along, Minister for Higher Education and Tribal Affairs as academic guest and debate critic.

The conference will continue till April 25.
