DIMAPUR: Taking strong exception of the rampant practice of donation and fund drive activities in and around Kohima town by various organizations and civil societies, the Angami Students Union (ASU) has imposed a ban on all kinds of fund drive activities within its jurisdiction. This notification was issued by Medo Yhokha President and Kelhouneizo Yhome, Speaker Union Assembly ASU.
The ASU informed that the decision to this effect was taken at the First Union assembly of the ASU with due support and endorsement from frontal public organizations of the Angami community as well as in response to the request of the general public. It added that the action was taken to “make living in Kohima decent and comfortable”.
The ban would cover raffle and lottery tickets, buffet tickets, concert tickets, sale of calendars, donation receipts “and the likes” according to the notification. The union in implementation of its resolution would keep a strict vigil on all forms of fund drives activities and implored business establishments and individuals alike not to entertain any kind of donation/fund drive projects based on raffles/buffets/concert tickets/calendar sales etc which are without the consent and approval of the ASU or appropriate government authorities. The union further warned of severe penalties for those organization(s)/ union(s) violating the ban order and cautioned business establishments to be wary of such drives.
Meanwhile the union has asked the organizations/unions/clubs etc already ‘in the market’ with fund drive projects taken up prior to the notification of this ban notice, to contact the ASU office in person along with their proposed project detail so as to avoid unnecessary complications within 10 days from the publication of this notice.
