Mokokchung, August 21 (MExN): The third-quarter periodic inspection of the District Jail, Mokokchung, was conducted on Friday under the leadership of Victo Sema, Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA).
The inspection was carried out in coordination with Kumdilong Kessen, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, MDLSA; Dr Madhavi R, IAS (P), Assistant Commissioner; I Bunlang Chang, Additional Superintendent of Police; Rongsentoshi Jamir, Youth Resources Department; and MDLSA Panel Lawyers Molo Jamir and Chubarenla.
The inspection began with a review of follow-up action on issues identified during the previous inspection held on May 12.
It was decided to submit an application to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) at the earliest for construction of a dedicated sentry post and repair of the perimeter walls, which were reported to be on the verge of collapse.
Regarding computer literacy training, it was resolved to approach the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) for collaboration to provide proper training and certification to inmates.
The proposal for construction of a footpath within the jail campus, which was approved at the last District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting, will be followed up with the DPDB chairman.
During the inspection, the Department of Youth Resources donated two volleyballs, a net and three footballs to the jail to promote the physical and mental well-being of inmates.
It was also decided to coordinate with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for providing psychiatric services to support the mental well-being of inmates.
The inspection further resolved to categorise inmates according to their areas of interest for skill development and approach the District Industries Officer for supply of raw materials to support inmate welfare and rehabilitation programmes.
The inspection concluded with a request to concerned authorities to ensure early implementation of the decisions in the interest of the safety, security and overall welfare of inmates.
