ASU bars taxi driver for alleged ILP violation, urges stricter checks

Kohima, January 27 (MExN): The Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has barred a taxi driver from operating within Angami jurisdiction after allegedly facilitating the entry of undocumented individuals into Nagaland, according to a press release issued on January 27.

The ASU stated that the incident occurred on the night of January 25, when its officials, returning from official duties, intercepted a taxi bearing registration for alleged reckless driving.

During the intervention, the vehicle was found to be carrying seven passengers, which the union said was in violation of All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) regulations.

Upon further verification, ASU claimed that five of the passengers were travelling without valid Inner Line Permits (ILPs).

Accordingly, the driver, identified by the union as one MD Ali Hussain, a resident of Midland Colony, Kohima, was accused of assisting the unauthorised entry of individuals into the State.

Consequently, the ASU announced that the driver concerned has been barred from operating any taxi services within Angami jurisdiction with immediate effect. The union stated that any violation of this directive would invite further action.

While acknowledging the efforts of the ANTA, the ASU urged the association to sensitise its drivers to prevent future violations and possible security lapses.

The ASU also appealed to the State Government to strengthen security measures at transit points by enforcing proper regulations and conducting rigorous ILP checks.

It emphasised the need for close monitoring of entry points to prevent undocumented movement into the State.

Further, the union called upon the general public to remain vigilant and cautioned against providing shelter or assistance to undocumented immigrants. It appealed for any such cases to be reported to the appropriate authorities.
