‘Asemang-Dimapur marathon’ to be held on Nov 25

The Ao Students Union Dimapur (ASUD) is set to host its fourth Autumn Huddle, sports and athletics meet from November 15 which will culminate the following day on November 16 for the Ao student community of Dimapur and the adjoining districts. This will be followed by an open marathon, for all interested individuals, dubbed as ‘Asemang-Dimapur marathon’ scheduled to take place in the early hours of November 25.
The two events were announced by ASUD members led by Ricky Ozukum, Convenor of the sportsmeet, Imnatemsu Pongen, President of ASUD and Pursunep, Sports Secretary during a press conference held at River belt colony, Dimapur on November 14.
ASUD President stated that the two day sports meet will be held at Government Higher Secondary School ground, Nagarjan Dimapur and will features events such as football, volleyball, tug of war and athletics. The participants will be divided into 8 teams namely, Sungkong Bangers, Arju Dwellers, Tenüm Flyers, Tzüla Warriors, Meinkong Woodlands, Milak Rapids, Tsürang Giants and Menung Tigers.
“We have about 12,000 registered Ao students in Dimapur,” Pongen revealed.
To all our other student unions we invite them to join the autumn huddle.
The members also shared an invitation to the other student bodies of Dimapur to come and witness the sports meet.
Asemang-Dimapur Marathon expected to draw large participants
As for the marathon event, Ozukum mentioned that it will be grouped into two categories- 21 Km run and 10 km run. Under the 25 Km category, the winners (fastest) will get to win a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 20,000, for both male and female participants. As for the 10 Km run, the cash prizes have been set at Rs 25,000 (first), Rs 15,000 (second) and Rs 10,000 (third) for the male and female participants.
The routes for marathon (21 Km) have been marked from Dimapur State Stadium-City tower-Burma camp-Purana Bazaar-3rd Mile-Nagarjan junction-Holy Cross junction-City tower-Dimapur State Stadium. In regard to the 10 Km run- Dimapur State Stadium-City tower-Burma camp-Super Market-Delux Point-Holy Cross junction-City tower-Dimapur State Stadium.
The top 15 runners will also receive medals for both the categories.
On this note, Ozukum viewed that the event will enable the organisers to identify the individual talents of the State. “We will have professionals coming from outside to monitor the timings of the run,” he said.
So far, 300 participants from outside the state have registered for the marathon with an expected additional participation of about 1500-2000 more.
The marathon is being organised in the spirit of integration and unity of the people of Dimapur, Ozukum stated.
