Mao, March 26 (MExN): The Department of Sociology, Asufii Christian Institute (ACI) Punanamei, Mao conducted a fieldwork at Koide Village, a historically significant site among the Poumai Naga community in the present state of Manipur on March 23 and 24. The fieldwork focused on the themes of marriage, gender and demography within the village.
A press release from the department informed that Koide Village holds a special place within the cultural tapestry of the Poumai community, making it an ideal location for sociological inquiry.
A team comprising of 37 students from various semesters took part in the fieldwork and they were accompanied and supervised by three faculty members throughout the research period.
First-semester students delved into understanding the institution of marriage within the context of Koide Village while third-semester students focussed on investigating gender dynamics prevalent the village, exploring roles, responsibilities, and inequalities within the household and the broader community, the release informed.
Sixth-semester students were the task to analyse the demographic structure that reflects an ageing population, with implications for healthcare, eldercare, and intergenerational support systems within the Village.

The fieldwork provided students with a unique opportunity to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application in a real-world setting, the release said.
By immersing themselves in the local community, they gained firsthand insights into the sociocultural complexities shaping the village, it maintained.
Dr Daili Neli, Head of the Sociology Department at ACI, emphasised the significance of such fieldwork experiences in nurturing well-rounded sociologists.
“Fieldwork at Koide Village has been an enriching experience for our students, enabling them to develop critical analytical skills and cultural sensitivity essential for addressing contemporary societal challenges,” remarked ACI Principal Dr P Wungnaongam.
