Athletics, games mark SASA annual sports meet

The athletics and games event of 60th annual games & sports meet 2022 of Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) commenced today at Jakhama ground in Kohima district. The meet will continue till February 4 at Jakhama Ground & Kimipfüphe Ground, Kigwema.

A good number of sports persons from Mitelephe, Viswema, Kezoma, Jakhama, Kigwema, Mima, Kidima, Kezo Town, Khuzama and Phesama are vying for top honours in  football, volleyball, Sepak Takraw, race, javelin  throw, discus throw, shot put, long jump, triple jump and mixed relay race for both men & female.

Er Lhoubeizo Kesiyie, president, Angami Sports Association (ASA) graced the athletic & games event as the special guest at Jakhama ground on February 1. Speaking on the occasion, Kesiyie challenged the players to have positive attitude in their hunt for excellence in the field of sports. He said that the ambience of positive attitude plays an important factor towards enhancing the level of one’s credibility and fair play.

Reminding the gathering that negative attitude will not bring anything good, he called upon the sports persons to develop healthy behavior and also uphold the spirit of respect to parents, coaches and elders to excel in life. He urged upon the sports lovers to develop flexibility from the grass root level, so that they stay ease at the higher level of competitions.

Kesiyie encouraged the sports lovers to establish a strong base in sports by engaging in any event they are good at and give fullest concentration and dedication for perfection. Engaging in sports for the sake of playing for leisure and without target will not produce any positive result, he said.

Earlier, the function was chaired SASA treasurer Ketobu Vitsu while SASA athletics & games secretary Thepfüzü-o Viswentso administered oath to the participating teams. Eminent sports person Kozhol Kirha (84 years) of Jakhama village lit the meet torch.

Er K John Mera, EE PWD (H), Division No. II Social Welfare & Women Development and Kevingoto Kulnu, EAC (Revenue), Kohima will be the match patron for February 2 and 3 events respectively. Videlalie Zashümo IPS, DIGP Borders, Dimapur will grace the closing ceremony on February 4.

Kigwema:  4 Gold, 6 Silver, 2 Bronze
Phesama:  4 Gold, 5 Silver 2 Bronze
Viswema:  4 Gold, 3 Silver, 3 Bronze
Mima:   2 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze
Khuzama:  1 Gold, 3 Silver, 1 Bronze
Jakhama:   1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze
