ATMA functionaries from Nagaland undertake training

Dimapur, February 23 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organized a two-day training programme for ATMA functionaries from 11 districts at SAMETI, Medziphema on February 19 and 20.
The training was held on ‘post harvest management and value addition of fruits and vegetables’ with an objective to train the ATMA functionaries as trainers to train rural farmers and farm women in the district to convert the locally available fruits and vegetables produce to value added products.
Resource persons for the training were Abon W Yanthan, Scientist, Horticulture Vegetable Science, ICAR, Research Complex for NEH Region; Dr Nini R Kuotso guest faculty, Department of Horticulture, NU: SASRD, Medziphema Campus and Vinika, Post harvest Technologist, CIH Medziphema.
The training covered topics on scope of food processing in horticulture sector, pre and post harvest factor influencing shelf life of fruits and vegetables, drying and dehydration, processing and value addition of fruits and vegetables, post harvest management of fresh fruits and vegetables, overview of processing and handling of high value fruit crops in Nagaland with reference to entrepreneurship development.
Hands-on demonstration was done on preparation of brinjal pickle, star fruit, squash, tomato sauce, jam making and preparation of fruit beverages was conducted.
The valedictory function was chaired by Vikaho Chophi, DPD SAMETI, while feedback on the training was given by trainees.
Dr Watimongla Jamir, in-charge, Director SAMETI, Medziphema encouraged the participants to become the real extension workers by bringing about tangible changes in their respective districts as well as the state. She stressed on the importance of being practically efficient in the field so that positive results can be achieved.
The training saw participants from all districts of the state.
