Atüna Shikhu’s musical project to honour Naga oral tradition in RCEMPA

Dimapur, February 28 (MExN): An original musical, ‘A Winter Night’s Dream - The Musical’, based on a traditional Sumi Naga folktale, is set to have its premiere production for two days on March 7 and 8 at the RCEMPA, Jotsoma-Kohima.

The musical draws inspiration from the popular folk story ‘Nisapa and Nisala’, a narrative exploring themes of forbidden love, longing, loss, and redemption. In a tribute to Naga oral traditions, the production brings the ancestral tale back to life through sound and performance, ensuring its resonance for contemporary generations.

Conceived as an independent project by Atüna Shikhu, the production features a unique fusion of Western and Naga Indigenous music styles. Shikhu has composed the music and lyrics, with Orchestration provided by Payio Kayina. The project has been developed in collaboration with the Margaret Shishak School of Music (Patkai Christian College Autonomous).

The scale of the production involves over 40 participants, comprising a cast of talented singers, dancers, and an ensemble, who will stage two evenings of live music, singing, and dramatic action.

Organisers have announced that tickets for the 6:00 pm shows are available for purchase at the Nagaland Coffee, Kohima Branch and Leisurely Art Café, Kohima.

The event is supported by TAFMA (RCEMPA) as the venue partner and Fingerprint Nagaland as the printing partner. For a behind-the-scenes look at rehearsals and song previews, audiences can follow their official Instagram page, @winternightsdreammusical.
