Dimapur, June 30 (MExN): Alleging humiliation and denunciation of the Atoizu Range Students Union (ARSU) by the Principal and lecturers of Kheloshe Polytechnic Atoizu (KPA) when the former paid a visit to the polytechnic, the students’ organization has demanded that the Principal answer in person to the students’ executive on or before July 4. Failure to comply with the notice, the ARSU sternly warned that the principal would be held solely responsibly for all untoward consequences that may arise later on.
In a strong statement issued jointly by Awoto S Awomi, President, Tokheho, General Secretary and Ghunato P Kesho, ARSU representative to the SKK (All Sumi Students Union), the organization stated that students of the polytechnic had raised complaints regarding irregularities of lecturers. Following the complaints the ARSU deemed it duty-bound to look into the matter and to this effect, paid a visit to the KPA. With the concern of the Administrative Officer (AO) the ARSU then wrote to the KPA Principal, requesting for a preview of lecturers’ attendance.
However, the principal allegedly rejected the application on grounds of confidentiality which cannot be shown even to the Sumi Students Union (SKK) and the Naga Students Federation (NSF). “Again to our surprise, he further said that no NGOs have right either to assist or interfere (in the KPA). After a hot argument and with the intervention of AO, he accepted the application” the ARSU stated. The principal, however, did not show the attendance register to the organization, it added.
Relatively, with the permission of the principal, the ARSU arranged a combined meeting with the lecturers after exams. However, the lecturers did not turn up on grounds that they could not be available on the date fixed. Following this, the ARSU executives had a meeting with students and learnt of many grievances among which were charges that lecturers of the KPA had taken only three classes in six months and conducting examinations thereafter.
“So whom should we blame when the principal of the KPA college supported the irregular lecturers by not showing us the lecturers’ attendance – the faults of the students or the lecturers that only three days were taught to the electrical department students? Whom do the students blame if he/she happens to fail in the concern subject that has been taught (only) for three days?” the ARSU questioned. “(The ARSU) would like to direct him to answer in person at the ARSU executive on or before 4th of July. Failing to answer within the prescribed time given to him, he shall be made responsible for all the untoward incidents” the ARSU warned the KPA principal
The organization also appealed to the SKK and the NSF to look into the matter and take action against the principal for denouncing the student organizations. The union also asked the principal and lecturers of KPA to perform their duties regularly and sincerely “to avoid any unpleasant circumstances”.
