Aug 24 ISBT murder: Organisations demand justice

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 25 (MExN): Condemnations poured in today following the murder of late LT Hozheto, who was a Chowkidar at the ISBT Complex, Purana Bazar, Dimapur on August 24. 

NST: Nagaland State Transport (NST) said that the incident “shows utter disregard of human life and more so, when he was on his bonafide duty.” The department requested the law enforcement authorities to ensure prompt and effective investigation to book the perpetrators. The department also conveyed condolence to the bereaved family.

Yuching Village Council: Yuching Village Council in its condemnation note has urged that this case “should not take as community crisis” and such inhuman act could not be tolerated in these civilized societies. The Yuching Village Council has appealed the law enforcing authority to punish the culprit as per the law of the land and deliver the justice at the earliest. 

Konyak Union: Konyak Union (KU) Mon said the incident has left all in a state of disbelief and anguish. “We stand united in grief with the bereaved family of late Hozheto Sema and extends our heartfelt condolences during this immensely difficult time. This tragic incident has cast a dark shadow over our community, and we extend our deepest sympathies,” it stated. KU called upon the law enforcement agencies to take immediate action and ensure that the perpetrator of this heinous crime, Noknyei Konyak “is meted out with strictest of punishments in accordance with the established law.”

“It has come to our attention through reliable sources that the culprit, Noknyei Konyak, is a drug addict and a habitual offender. This incident serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need to address the escalating drug menace in our society. This is not an isolated occurrence, as we sadly recall the tragic incident on 25th May in Tizit, wherein a promising student leader lost his life to drug-addled violence,” the union also stated.

It further called upon the Government of Nagaland to take effective measures on urgent basis to combat drug menace that is plaguing our society. “The government must take proactive steps to curb the spread of drugs and prevent further tragedies from unfolding.”

Aquba New: Village Council of Aquba New felt disturbed that “committing of such a heinous crime are starting to seep into our Naga Society.” It appealed to the investigating authority to leave no stone unturned and ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice without any delay. 

Sumi Hoho: Sümi Hoho and the Sümi frontal organizations said that such a despicable and barbaric display of malevolent and nefarious elements finds no place within the confines of a cultured society. Acknowledging the prompt and resolute response exhibited by the police in the apprehension of the culprit, the Sümi Hoho and the Sümi frontal organizations commend the exceptional diligence and efficacy displayed by the Nagaland Police officers and personnel engaged in the operation. It also implored the law enforcement agencies to ensure the imposition of rigorous and unrelenting punitive retribution upon the perpetrator responsible for the murder of a dedicated government employee as early as possible, whose commission of this odious act is a grievous and a profoundly traumatizing nature.

WSKH: WSKH (Western Sümi Kükami Hoho) has said that appealed to all the right-thinking citizens to condemn this inhuman act so as to condone such evil act from our society. While appreciating the initiatives taken by Dimapur police in capturing the culprit, the hoho earnestly urged the Police and Administrations, Dimapur to take strong action and not to grant bail to such criminal. Such gruesome act of crime is not acceptable in a civilized society, no matter the intent and circumstances, it stated. 

KATK: KATK (Western Aghunato Area People's Union) has urged the Police Administration to deploy any devices for immediate arrest of any other accomplices that may be involved in the murder and initiate legal charge-sheet on the culprits immediately so as to prevent unwarranted situations that may arise in this connection. The union also stated that “as it has been amply proved that the deceased was killed while on duty as ascertained by the Departmental Officers concerned, we strongly urge the Government of Nagaland and the concerned Department in particular to immediately initiate for providing regular job to the spouse or to the immediate kin of the deceased under compassionate ground.” 

DSC: Dimapur Sumi Council said that such barbaric act has no place today in our society and should be condemned by all right thinking citizens. The Council has lauded the Dimapur Police for their prompt step in arresting the culprit and urged them to take proper action on the culprit as per the law so that justice will be delivered.

NCD: Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) said that “no one has right to take away God's given precious life of a human for any reason.” The NCD expressed sadness that Dimapur is witnessing a number of such heineous murder crimes in its jurisdiction. It appealed to all federating tribe hohos and civil society organisations to help police to arrest the murderer. It meanwhile urged all citizens and colony councils in Dimapur to keep strict vigil, control and ensure that such heinous crimes do not take place by forming peace keeping vigilance committees and keeping in touch with police of the area.
