MON, APRIL 5 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio informed on Saturday that the State Government is waiting for an update from the Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding a proposed meeting with an all-party delegation to discuss the Naga political issue and concerns over the Free Movement Regime (FMR) with Myanmar.
Interacting with reporters on the sidelines of a programme, the chief minister said he had suggested in the assembly recently that an all-party delegation meet Shah to apprise him about the contentious issues, PTI News agency reported.
As per the report, Rio further noted that during the recent North Eastern Council meeting in Guwahati, Shah had told him that, “he would find a suitable time and call us. So we are waiting for that”.
“We have been meeting and putting our side of the story since they have signed the Framework Agreement and Agreed Position,” Rio said, when queried on the government would meet the Naga political groups.
The Government of India had inked the ‘Framework Agreement’ with NSCN (IM) in August 3, 2015 and the ‘Agreed Position’ was signed with the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) on November 17, 2017.
Rio expressed optimism that a solution for the Naga political issue would be found, which would be inclusive and acceptable to all, the PTI report added.
The Chief Minister was in Mon district for the official Konyak Heritage Complex Inauguration-cum-Konyak Aoleang Monyu 2025 in Leangha village on April 5.
