A four-day awareness campaign, aimed at promoting sustainable practices and the safe disposal of plastics, concluded in Dimapur on January 19. Organised by the PET Packaging Association for Clean Environment (PACE), Lakshya, and Eco-Warriors Nagaland, in collaboration with the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and the Pollution Control Board, the initiative sought to address the growing concerns around plastic waste in the city.

The programme featured a series of impactful activities designed to engage the community and raise awareness about the environmental risks associated with improper plastic disposal.

The campaign kicked off on January 16 with a signature drive at Hongkong Market, one of Dimapur's busiest commercial hubs. Residents were invited to pledge their commitment to reducing plastic waste and adopting sustainable practices. The event drew a large crowd and was an effective means of educating the public on the far-reaching environmental impact of plastic pollution.

On the second day, the campaign reached commuters as eco-friendly stickers with key messages on plastic waste management were pasted on vehicles. Additionally, a sensitization program was held at the Dhobinala Auto Stand, where auto drivers were educated about their role in promoting responsible waste disposal. The initiative encouraged both drivers and passengers to be more mindful of plastic waste while traveling.

The third day saw a large-scale cleanliness drive, where volunteers, community members, and officials came together to clean public spaces from Dhobinala to First Complex. Plastic waste was collected and properly disposed of, demonstrating the importance of collective action in maintaining a clean and sustainable environment.

On January 19, the campaign culminated with another signature drive at the City Town area, where residents reaffirmed their commitment to eco-friendly practices. The event underscored the growing willingness of Dimapur’s citizens to work together for a cleaner and greener future.

The primary objective of the campaign was to educate the public about the importance of safe plastic disposal and the need for adopting sustainable, eco-friendly practices. By promoting recycling and responsible waste management, the programme sought to reduce the environmental burden caused by plastic waste. Organizers emphasized that individual actions, when combined, can create a significant, positive impact on the environment.
