Mokokchung, March 25 (MExN): An awareness programme on child safety, security, and the implementation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was conducted here on March 25 by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Mokokchung, under the Department of Social Welfare at PM Shri Government High School, Mokokchung Village.
The programme was aimed at educating students and teachers on child protection, personal safety, and legal safeguards under the POCSO Act, with an emphasis on creating a safe school environment and encouraging children to speak up against any form of abuse.
Imnatola, District Supervisor, Child Helpline, Mokokchung Town, served as the resource person. She spoke in detail about child rights, the provisions of the POCSO Act, and the role of Child Helpline services, encouraging students to seek help without fear while assuring them of confidentiality and support.
Tianaro Jamir, President of Watsü Mungdang, delivered an exhortation on self-awareness and safety measures in schools. She highlighted the importance of understanding personal boundaries, staying alert, and reporting unsafe situations to trusted adults.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Samuel Kapu, District Child Protection Officer, Mokokchung, who appreciated the participants and stressed the need for continued awareness efforts to ensure child safety in the district.
