Awareness on medicinal and aromatic plants held

Wokha, OctOBER 31 (MExN): A one day awareness programme on 'Medicinal & Aromatic Plants' under promotion of MSMEs in NER & Sikkim scheme in association with Nagaland bio resource mission, Kohima Nagaland and District Industries centre, Wokha was held at Tourist lodge Wokha on Tuesday.

Around 40 farmers from Wokha District attended the one day event where they were familiarized with medicinal plants and their usage as well as various schemes funded through the central and state government.

Limasunep Longchari, District Agriculture Officer, Wokha was the special invitee during the event. He acknowledged that through the programme it will help in enhancing wider knowledge in tapping the available resources and strengthen the farmers and grower in the district.

During the programme Taliwati Longchar, IEDS Joint director MSME-DFO, Dimapur welcomed the participants where he also briefed the programme. Short speeches were delivered by Nzanthung Ezung (PhD Student), Somipam Pielie team member, NBRM government of Nagaland and Myinthungo Kikon, general manager DIC, Wokha.

In the technical session an introduction to medical & Aromatic Plants was done by Manebsangla Amer, team member, NBRM, Government of Nagaland. Taliwati Longchar, Joint Director, MSME-DFO, Dimapur shared on promotion of MSMEs in NER and Sikkim.

Nzanthung Ezung, PhD student shared on bio resources, prospect of entrepreneurship and medicinal and aromatic plants. Y Ayimla Esther Yim, team member, NRBM, Government of Nagaland highlighted the concept of medicinal plants and its role in history and processing and marketing while Nzanthung Ezung (PhD student) briefed on processing and value addition of spice and medicinal plants.

The one day programme was chaired by Lucy DIC, Wokha while vote of thanks was pronounced by Apong Longchar MSME-DFO Dimapur.
