Awareness on substance abuse held at Litta Old

Zunheboto, June 27 (MExN): A unique intervention methodology aimed at raising awareness on substance abuse, HIV and a comprehensive health camp was conducted in commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at Litta Old, VK Circle under Zunheboto on June 26. 

It may be noted here that the area has reported a high number of drug users in the past but more in the recent days, stated a press release issued by Ketholelie Angami, President, ARK Foundation.

The programme was held under the theme, ‘People First: Stop Stigma and Discrimination, Strengthen Prevention’ and held at Litta Old Baptist Church. Organised by ARK Foundation, with support from NSACS, NHM and Social Welfare Department as event partners, and through the collaboration of village council, the programme was graced by Dr Ahu Sekhose, Project Director, NSACS. 

The programme was attended by village leaders, elders, GBs, church representatives, community members and host of leaders from the neighbouring villages.

Significance of the event was delivered by Metevinuo Sakhrie, JD-IEC, NSACS, Harmful effects of drug use-physical, occupational and legal harms by Ketho Angami, ARK Foundation, success story through OST by recovering drug user, Inashe Chishi, service package under the purview of HIV prevention approaches by Dr Bernice D Thapru, JD-Prevention Div, NSACS. 

The comprehensive health camp was conducted by the medical team under Zunheboto district where 68 community members availed the services such as free general check-ups and blood test, and medicines.
