Dimapur, October 7 (MExN): CMPH Prodigals’ Home along with DMHP and Gracious Life Foundation conducted an awareness programme on mental health with Police Training School (PTS) inductees at their training complex at Chümoukedima on October 7 as part of the 10 days awareness campaign to commemorate World Mental Health Day (October 10).
K Ela, Director of Prodigals’ Home, in her welcome highlighted and reiterated the importance of conversing about mental health and related issues. She also stressed on the need for convergence and collaboration of stakeholders so that conversation on Mental Health issues doesn’t have to be stigmatised or suppressed.
During the programme, Neimhanu Kulnu from DMHP and Lisali Humtsoe were invited as the resource persons. Kulnu presented on Stress and Anger Management and ways to manage the same while Lisali presented her personal account of living with her brother having mental issues and how she started a home for the mentally ill. The underlying message of the day’s program was, “Mental Illness can happen to anyone but treatment works”.
Starting from October 1, Prodigals’ Home and Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disability and supported by District Administration (Dimapur and Chümoukedima), District Mental Health Program, District Legal Services Authority & Gracious Life Foundation had chalked out a series of programs with various stakeholders.
Earlier, the invocation was pronounced by Zachamo and benediction by Nokyam Konyak from the police force. The programme was chaired by Sentimenla of Prodigals Home and vote of thanks was addressed by Chenth, Vice Principal of PTS, Chümoukedima.
