Jalukie, January 28 (MExN): The Department of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Veterinary Clinical Complex (VCC), College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry (CoVSc & AH), Jalukie, jointly organised an awareness programme on “Tick-borne blood parasitic diseases in pet animals and livestock” on January 28.

The programme was conducted for pet and livestock owners, with 30 farmers participating and benefiting from the awareness session.

Welcoming the participants at the inaugural programme, the coordinator, Dr Gunjan Das, Professor and Head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine and in-charge Head of the Veterinary Clinical Complex, underlined the importance of such awareness initiatives for pet and livestock owners and also delivered a lecture on “Ticks as vectors and their control measures”.

Addressing the gathering, in-charge Dean Dr Palanisammi highlighted the significance of blood parasitic diseases in both companion and livestock animals. He said tick-borne diseases cause serious economic losses to pet and livestock owners and stressed the need for greater awareness about their prevention and control.

Resource persons Dr Sashitola Ozukum and Dr Keneisezo Kuotsu, Assistant Professors of the Veterinary Clinical Complex and coordinators of the programme, delivered lectures on “Tick-borne blood parasitic diseases of pet animals and their management and control” and “Tick-borne blood parasitic diseases of livestock and their management and control”, respectively.

During the feedback session, participating farmers expressed appreciation for the programme and said they had benefited from the awareness initiative.
