SHAMATOR, MAY 13 (MExN): The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Shamator conducted an awareness programme on prevention of child marriage at Government Higher Secondary School, Shamator on May 12, 2025, coinciding with Akshaya Tritiya.
EAC Shamator, Mekato J Aye, who was the special guest, urged students to become advocates against child marriage. Legal-cum-Probation Officer, DCPU, Cherry Ovung, educated students on the legal marriage age and penalties under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.
Counsellor, Child Helpline, Sothrunkiu Kips, highlighted the importance of the CHILDLINE 1098 service and encouraged students to seek help in cases of abuse, bullying, or abandonment.
The programme was chaired by Protection Officer (NIC) Mongshai, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Case Worker, Neotola S.
