KOHIMA, OCTOBER 4 (MExN): Angami Youth Organization (AYO) is calling for “a moment of solidarity to enable our environment” on October 5, wherein it is asking vehicles to remain off the roads and business to power down their machines within Kohima jurisdiction from 6:00am to 6:00pm.
The AYO in a press note informed that this initiative has been called to impress upon the present generation for an attitudinal and behavioural change towards nature and the environment.
In exercise of this, AYO has appealed all vehicles to remain off the road for the day; all mills/ crushers/ print/ fabricating houses/ workshops/ cafes/ constructing agents using planners and other power driven equipments, etc. to down/ cease their power driven machinery/ activity for the day; minimal and judicious usage of power on home appliances such as TVs/ refrigerators/ PCs, etc; and all vehicle owners/ drivers to cease engines even at home or garage.
The scheduled date is not a bandh, no restriction on human movement and activities will be imposed under any manner, except on the engagement and usage of the above highlighted mediums. The AYO has asked all government offices/ corporate houses/ establishments, etc, to maintain mandatory attendance on the day.
“It is also expected that business establishments, institutions, offices, schools, etc, will remain open and fully functional similar with all other working days,” it added.
The AYO asked citizens, to “walk to work, do a work with human driven energy, feel a day with nature – a day without dependence on fossil fuel energy related life, to take a walk for a healthy and better life, a day to enable our environment to recoup its vitality for human sustenance.”
Meanwhile, it informed that the following are being exempted within the purview of the call: district administration/ police/ paramilitary forces on duty; first responders of the district (Media persons, doctors and nurses, fire services, etc); people on emergency and on important engagements; schools/ students/ faculties on scheduled duty; people attending wedding, festivals and funerals; government officials, HODs/ AHODs and departmental buses.”
