Kohima, October 25 (MExN): A weeklong training on Disaster Preparedness and Environment Protection for community level first responders (AYO volunteers) was held from October 8 to 14, at Government High School, Khonoma.
The training programme was organised by the Angami Youth Organisation in collaboration with the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Department of Home Guards and Civil Defence (HG&CD), and Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Nagaland. Altogether about 100 participants from the four AYO range units (CYO, NAYO, SAYO and WAYO) including AYO office bearers and senior leaders participated in the training.
The first three days of the training covered theoretical as well as practical aspects of disaster preparedness such as search and rescue, first aid, bandaging, knotting, and emergency improvisation techniques. The resource persons for the training were from the Thejavizo Zao, DPO, NSDMA and Victor Kevilhouthie Yhome, DPA, Kohima, NSDMA, Rendemo Shetoi, NSDMA, Mulai Lamniah, District Commandant, HG&CD, Kohima District and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Nagaland, comprising of personnel from the Department of Home Guards and Civil Defence. Kohima District Disaster Management Committee was represented by Khrietuo Angami.
On completion of the training, certificates were given to the trainees by the NSDMA, informed a press release issued by AYO President Neinguvotuo Krose and Training Committee Convenor, Metekhrielie Mejura.
On day four, the participants had a hiking trip to Dzüleke village and witnessed Nature in its full glory. The trek was held so that the participants can learn to appreciate and care for the immense natural wealth and beauty that God has blessed the Nagas with. Day five of the training camp witnessed various competitions between the campers who had been grouped into five different groups.
On day six, talks and presentations on various environmental issues were held. Rongsenmenla Imchen, IFS, DFO, Kohima and Beizo Suokhrie, DFO, Longleng from the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Nagaland were the resource persons. They highlighted various environmental issues facing the world today and the need to care for the environment.
Other resource persons and speakers during the weeklong camp included Khrielievi Chüsi, Asstt. Pastor Vibi Chase, Rev. Fr. Solomon Vizo, Petevi Meyase, Ülalhu Vüprü GB, Vilazosie Punyü GB, Pelesielie Khiezhie, and Kezhazer Angami.
