Dimapur, August 28 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President K Therie on Sunday stated that former Union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad’s resignation from the Congress party was ‘wrong’ especially since it comes at a time when Congress workers across the nation were looking at his leadership and contribution in this difficult time.
“He had all the platforms to ventilate what he feels for the party and the nation. He did so in what the Media calls G-23. Things were moving towards correction in line with what they advised. The Chintan Shivir at Udaipur deliberated on almost all the issues with party election on process. If he was interested, he could have filed nomination for any post to serve INC,” Therie stated in a press release.
Stating that Azad had nurtured the Congress party for over 40 years, “Dumping Congress workers across the nation, who were looking at his leadership to contribute in this difficult time, does not go down well,” Therie said.
“He would have lost nothing by orchestrating what he considered was good for the Nation within the party and still would have remained one of the tallest leaders in the Congress,” he added.
According to Therie, today, the nation needs change. “Particularly Muslims and Christians need to protect ourselves from being barred from voting,” he said, adding that they hardly have representation in the Union Cabinet as well the national government agencies. “Muslims and Christians are not well represented to protect social discriminations and attack on personal laws. No interest is higher than that of the Community and Nation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Therie acknowledged that there are ‘ups and downs’ in politics, and at the same time pointed out that, “Those who are not clear in their idea of a nation, those who are not worried about their ethnic values, those who are looking for money through corruption and those who do not perceive the future, they, in confusion run after comfort and power.”
He held that the Congress and BJP will remain inevitable in India. “BJP came back from 2 MPs so will Congress from 50 MPs. Until then we will continue to uphold the party which can accommodate citizens from all walks of life,” he added.
