Baichung Bhutia, Renedy Singh to attend closing of Sumi Hoho Trophy

Dimapur, February 23 (MExN): Two former Indian Football captains, Baichung Bhutia and Renedy Singh will reportedly attend the closing of the Sumi Hoho Trophy. 

The Sumi Hoho Trophy is conducted under the aegis of apex Sumi Games and Sports Association (SGSA) having 20 subunits covering all Sumi areas in Nagaland and upper Assam. 

According to an update, the Atoqa Tea Producer Company Limited (ATPCL) will facilitate the arrival of the United Sikkim FC 11 accompanied by Baichung Bhutia in Nagaland on March 8. Renedy Singh will join from Imphal, stated a press release issued by Tokato Yepthomi, Manager Ground Operations of ATPCL.

In solidarity of grassroot football in the state, an exhibition match will be played between Sumi 11 and Baichung 11 USFC from 9:00 am during the closing ceremony on March 9. 

It further informed that as part of its CSR initiative Global Network Group, would be supporting coach training in Siliguri under the guidance of Baichung Bhutia to set up one under-14 team in Suruhuto subdivision. It will also sponsor talented players for trials in professional FC to give them the appropriate platform and support, under the banner of Suruhuto area sports association (SASA).

Meanwhile, Bollywood playback singer NK Naga will release the Sumi football song during the event. 

Baichung Bhutia, also the founder of BBFS (Baichung Bhutia Football School) across 21 cities in India is closely associated with Suruhuto subdivision and had also donated to Suruhuto COVID Task Force during the pandemic in 2020.  

Renedy Singh and Baichung Bhutia are presently the advisors to Western Sumi Sports Association (WSSA).

The two are also scheduled to play an exhibition match with WSSA 11 in Dimapur at DDSC stadium on March 11.
