Kohima, May 31 (MExN): A banana farm school was inaugurated at Kidima village in Jakhama block by Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) functionaries along with BTT convenor on May 31. Macü Tholre was appointed the farm school teacher.
BTT convenor, Jakhama block Wabang Longkumer in the keynote address impressed upon the audience the importance of banana cultivation, its origin and history and status of India as the world’s largest producer of banana followed by China which together account for 28% of the global production.
Experience sharing was later given by the farm school teacher, where he narrated his journey as a keen fruit cultivator since childhood and how he came to set up his current banana plantation despite one being destroyed over a decade ago due to road construction, informed a press release. He also shared some knowledge and tips for prolific banana cultivation based on his experience and practices.
Later, demonstration on integrated disease management of Banana Bunchy Top disease was given by Tolovino Sale, ATM. During the programme, ROBAN, a rodenticide, was also distributed among the farmers to control the rodent epidemic that has been pestering the farmers’ fields presently, the release added.
15 farmers and 4 ATMA functionaries attended the programme.
