Banks launch org to empower farmers

Dimapur, May 12 (MExN): In an effort to provide the credit needs of the farming community to improve their socio – economic condition and also to provide technical support to farmers of the Touphema village area, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD)launched Chuwhuonuo Farmers Club (FC) in Touphema village on May 7. The launching event had Dr Vimal Kishor, GM, NABARD as the chief guest. 

The organization of Chuwhuonuo Farmers Club was proposed by the Nagaland State Co – operative Bank Ltd (NSCB), High School Junction Branch, Kohima to the NABARD, RO Dimapur.    

Speaking at the event, Dr. Vimal focused on finding solutions to the problems of the farming community. He stated that the inauguration of FC was not the end, but beginning of the organization while advising the farmers to go outside Nagaland for exposure to improved farming. NABARD has created funds for such programs. 

Meanwhile, the guest of honour, BK Thadani, MD, NSCB expressed his happiness to the villages over the organization of the FC and informed that the bank will extend all possible help to the Club for its development. He asserted that the FCs are formed to act as a bridge between the farmers and the development agencies, including banks. He also informed that his bank has organized the highest numbers of FCs compared to other banks in the state. 

Dr Akashe Zhimomi, Program Coordinator, KVK, Tesophenyu also discussed on the role of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and informed that lots of facilities can be availed by farmers free of cost through KVK. Bendang Aier, AGM (DD), NABARD also highlighted on the role of Farmers Club and also conducted Base Level Training program. KV Disong, Nodal Officer (MFC), NSCB from HQ Dimapur and Lesse Luho, BM, NSCB, Kohima were also present at the event. 

The program was chaired by Kevisa Kense, Joint Director, Department of Fisheries. Vote of thanks was offered by Ketoulhou Kense from State Vigilance department. Rajusilie Lhousa, former VC, NSCB also spoke on the occasion
