Angami students impose ‘blanket ban’ on fund drive

THE ANGAMI Students’ Union (ASU) has imposed ‘total blanket ban’ on all kinds of fund drive activities within its jurisdiction. Having taken stock of the nuisance, the unbecoming fashion of donation and fund drive activities in and around Kohima town by various organizations and civil societies, ASU imposed a partial ban on those activities from September 2005, which evoked appreciation from all quarters.
“Taking into consideration the positive response of the public in general, the ASU from the date of notification of this public notice will impose a total blanket ban on all kinds of fund drive activities within its jurisdiction,” the Union president Medo Yhokha and assistant general secretary Kevin Solo said in a release.
The Union impressed upon the public that “no kind of fund drive whatsoever, will be tolerated, and societies, clubs, organizations and various NGOs, which do not abide by this notification, will face disciplinary action.”
Activities that will come under the purview of the total blanket ban order include Raffle, Lottery tickets, buffet tickets, concert tickets, sale of calendars, donation receipts etc.
Henceforth, it said, the Union will not issue any kind of permission to any NGO. The Union in implementation of its resolution will keep a strict vigil on all forms of fund drive activities and implores business establishments/shops and individuals alike not to entertain any kind of donation/fund drive projects based on Raffle/Buffet/Concert tickets/Calendars sales etc.
The Union warned that heavy penalties for those erring and defaulting organization(s), Union(s) and further action, particularly the business community, establishments and shops, on entertaining donations and fund drive.
However, the union reserved the right to issue classified permission in very special cases, provided proper detailed project proposals and estimates are furnished.
