Banning beef is a State’s prerogative, says BJP Nagaland Secretary

Dimapur, April 19 (MExN): The State Secretary, BJP Nagaland K Thong, on Tuesday, maintained that beef eating is not banned in Christian dominated states like Nagaland, Meghalaya and Mizoram as well as Goa with only 25% Christian population.

“This is state subject,” he said implying that the concerned state government has prerogative to make law on the issue.

Thong was addressing the 3rd executive meeting of 12th Tseminyu Mandal Unit at the Conference Hall of the Bharatiya Janata Party District Office Kohima on April 18.

Regarding observance of festival, the State Secretary asserted that, “We are free to observe our festivals whenever it is in our home state.”

The State government has the right to exempt from official programs and allow citizens to celebrate festivals with utmost freedom, Thong said in his address released to the media here.

He also urged the Mandal Unit members not to play cheap propaganda but “play issue based politics by deliberating with the grass root level.”

“We have a number of problems in villages which could not be solved by elected representatives.”

Thong also noted that 12th Tseminyu a/c is the largest single tribal constituency with inadequate political representation and various problems faced by them are “concealed or even spoken of” and urged the members to choose talented people to rectify the same.

On the issue of corruption, the State Secretary pointed out that the yearning to change is apparent from people all over the country attributing the “BJP rule in 13 various states” as a vote for development and rejection of corruption.

“People are the best judge. The wind of change is blowing towards Northeast and Nagaland.”

Stating that BJP is firm against corruption, he asserted that it intend to eradicate poverty “wherever it is voted to power.”

Thong further highlighted that the BJP is a “Cadre based party” and each party worker should maintain BJP party discipline and respect rules and protocols as cadres.

“We have a system of erecting party organizational structures and carrying out functions and responsibilities. It is expected from every level unit that rules are properly taken care of while strengthening the party” he said.

He further urged the workers be an agent of better social change but advised them to be less officials but more “like family members and friends” having mutual respect and love for each other while carrying out the Party’s obligations.

Meanwhile, a press note from BJP 12th Tseminyu Mandal President Shoyhunlo Kemp informed that its 3rd Executive Meeting was attended by 60 delegates from various villages of the constituency. The meeting was chaired by the president, who also delivered welcome address while Seyiekhrielie Nagi, General Secretary, BJP Kohima District gave a brief speech.
