Dimapur, August 4 (MExN): Bosco College of Teacher Education (BCTE), Dimapur held its New Academic Year cum Fresher’s Day 2017 on August 4.
BCTE Principal Fr. (Dr.) T.C. Joseph sdb welcomed the guests and students, particularly the 100 new students of the 1st Semester. He also reminded the students to personalize the ten points given by St. John Bosco as guiding principles for teachers to follow as they educate the youth to be worthy citizens in the future. Many of the principles proposed by Don Bosco nearly 200 years back, he said, are being now introduced in the education system of the day, like avoidance of corporal punishment, insistence on discipline, friendly presence of teachers among the students not only in the classroom but also during recreation, etc.
In his speech, Fr. (Dr.) A. J. Sebastian sdb, the day’s guest of honour, urged the teacher trainees to give more importance to performance than obtaining ranks in their studies. He insisted that they should help their students to cultivate three important ‘Qs’ – Intelligence quotient, Emotional quotient and Social quotient, stated a press release from BCTE.
Meanwhile, the chief guest of the day, Fr. Nestor Guriasdb urged the teacher trainees to have a good knowledge of the six pillars of knowledge proposed by UNESCO, namely, learning to Know, learning to Do (skills), learning to Be Together, learning to Be (living by values), learning to Care, and learning to Transform.
The 1st Semester students broke the ice with presentation of a joyous melody. In between different items of the day’s programme, the new batch of 100 teacher trainees of the BCTE briefly introduced themselves to the assembly.
Earlier, the 3rd Semester students welcomed the new comers with a melodious song. Peihimdai welcomed the new comers on behalf of the 3rd Semester students. Dances were also performed by the students during the event.
