A ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ project entitled “Reach the Unreach” touched Tabitha Enabling Academy, Kohima on August 9 with Burakum Ao, president Voluntary Blood Donors Association, HQ Nagaland as the special guest. This “Beauty with a Purpose” project is initiated by Vimgha Sheqi, Miss Nagaland 1st Runner-up 2023, Miss Sumi 2023 and Miss Pughoboto 2022.

“We are gathered here to celebrate an initiative that transcends conventional societal stereotypes and embraces a sense of dedication to empowering and promoting people with disabilities,” Sheqi said.

In a world often fixated on superficial appearances, this project shines a light on the strength, and resilience found within individuals of all abilities, she said.

She said that the heart of “Beauty with a purpose “project beats with the rhythm of empowerment.

“It strives to be a platform where voices that have been overlooked for too long are amplified, where barriers are dismantled, and where opportunities are created for every individual to flourish,” Shegi said.

By fostering an environment of inclusivity and support, we not only empower those with disabilities but also enrich our communities with their unique perspectives, talents, and experiences, she said.

This project aims to witness the transformative power of advocacy and awareness, she said adding that through education, outreach, and collaboration, to pave the way for a more inclusive society where individuals with disabilities are not only accepted but celebrated for their inherent worth and potential.

“Let us remember that true beauty lies not in perfection but in diversity, not in uniformity but in uniqueness,” she said.

As we continue to champion the cause of empowering and promoting people with disabilities, let us carry forward the torch of compassion, understanding, and solidarity, Shegi said adding “Together, let us create a world where every individual, regardless of ability, is valued, respected, and empowered to shine brightly as their authentic selves.”

‘Include “sign language interpreter” in any of the progs’
Also speaking on the occasion, Ainato Yeptho, Deputy Director, Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) stressed on the need to empower persons with disability through education.

Institutions must adapt to change by providing adaptive materials and technologies that support diverse learning needs, he said.
He said that inclusivity must be practiced in workplaces which add value to the unique perspectives and skills of employees with disabilities.

“Together, we can build a world where every individual has the opportunity to reach their full potential,” Yeptho said.

He said that the role of the stakeholders plays a very vital role in achieving enabling environment for this special section of people.
“It is high time to include “sign language interpreter” in any of the programmes (such as in the church services, Government events / activities like during Hornbill festivals and wheelchair ramp provisions in all the institutes,” he said.

The beauty with a purpose project initiated by Vimgha Sheqi will have a great impact in creating awareness and reaching out to the most important section of people, he said.

“Together. Let us make a meaningful difference,” Yeptho said adding “Inclusivity is not an act of charity; but a commitment to justice and equality.”

Vekutilii, Proprietor Tabitha Enabling Academy also spoke at the programme. The programme was chaired by Vincent W Patton, Mr Zoomax 1st Runner- up 2024.
