Kohima: The Nagaland People’s Front has disowned the statement made by Leader of Opposition and Congress stalwart I Imkong on the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee booklet ‘Bedrock of Naga Society.’ Press Secretary of the NPF, R Paphino while informing of a specific resolution adopted by the NPF Central Executive Committee in its meeting held recently stated that Imkong’s statement on August 31 during the Naga Integration Rally wherein he had stated that the booklet was a ‘closed chapter’ could in no way be accepted by the NPF and the Naga people. Denouncing Imkong’s statement that, “the very reason for writing the booklet has served its purpose,” the NPF has demanded an explicit explanation from him to the Naga people as to what he means by whipping up such a statement, the release said.

According to the NPF, this statement has been issued basing on the following premises:

•    Knowing that the gestation period of the NPCC’s ‘Bedrock of Naga Society’ took several decades till its birth on June 19, 2000 at Congress Bhavan, Kohima;

•    Conscious that the booklet was published with deliberate ill motive and mala fide intent to distort and denigrate the history of the Nagas;

•    Aware that, statement of denouncement and condemnation had poured in from all quarters of Naga society since its release by SC Jamir, the then President, NPCC;

•    Knowing that this abominable and outrageous act was the exact sate of mind of the Nagaland Congress to further their ‘hidden agenda’ which in fact, was a sheer commission of grievous wrong against the Naga people;

•     Accepting one’s common sense, that when any serious wrong is inflicted on a person or society, the offender cannot casually shrug off his culpability by asking the victim ‘to forget it’ or in other words, to take it as ‘a closed chapter’;

•    Acknowledging the Universal human concept of rapprochement that when any grievous harm is being perpetrated on any individual or society, it invariably requires certain level of reasoning to wind up such an issue or problem.
