1st National Conference on honey in North East held
Dimapur, May 25 (MExN): ‘Honey Season 2013’ the 1st National Conference on Honey in North East was held at Guwahati Assam on May 22.
NBHM Team Member, Chubanungla Shilu in a press release said that during the event, three progressive beekeepers from Nagaland and promoted by NBHM were awarded with citations and mementos by FICCI and NERAMAC in recognition of their remarkable contribution to scientific beekeeping and Honey industry in the NE Region. The recipients were T. Chuba Ao from Yisemyong Village, Mokokchung district, Khekhato Jimo from Satakha Village, Zunheboto district and Ayen Chang on behalf of Chendang Village Beekeeping Committee, Tuensang district. Two other beekeepers from Assam were also awarded by the organizers. This event was held at NEDFI House and organized by FICCI (Federation of Indian Chamber of Industries and Commerce) and NERAMAC (North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Cooperation Limited). The conference was sponsored by NEC and supported by NABARD.
During the conference resource persons and delegates from NE region and the rest of the country participated and deliberated on the scope and potentials of honey industry in the region and the way forwards. The Plenary sessions deliberated on various key issues like the new paradigms of honey processing and marketing, developments in food processing and honey and its exports and regulations norms & International trade barriers besides other topics.
The event was graced by J Lhungdim, IDAS Planning Advisor of NEC as the chief guest, with Sharif Uz- Zaman Laskar, Member KVIC and Amit Dhanuka, Vice President, All India Food Processors Association as guests of honour.
The Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) also participated at the seminar through a paper presentation on the topic- ‘Apiculture & The North East’ by Mhathung Yanthan, Team Leader NBHM with special reference to the Apicultural activities in Nagaland initiated by NBHM.
