Beisumpuikam annually produces 1000 tonnes of rice

KVK and ATMA Peren sensitize farmers on Toria variety TS 67
Peren, January 30 (MExN): Beisumpuikam village annually produces 1000 tonnes of rice, 62 tonnes of Sesame, 20 tonnes of Colocasia besides other vegetable and 42-45 tonnes of Toria and mustard. Zeliang also said that the Toria variety TS 67 is doing well in the village.
This was informed by the Chairman of Beisumpuikam village council, Tadibe Zeliang during the field day cum farmer-scientist interaction programme conducted by KVK Peren under ICAR Research Complex for NER, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema in collaboration with ATMA Peren at Beisumpuikam on January 29.
A press release received here stated the programme was held with the objective to sensitize the farmers of Beisumpuikam and neighbouring villages about the particular Toria variety TS 67, a short duration high yielding variety from AAU, Shillongani, Assam taken up for Frontline Demonstration by KVK in farmers field.
During the programme, duties and responsibilities of a successful farmer was shared by Akam Zeliang, DPD, ATMA Peren who exhorted the farmers on the need for planning, knowledge of land and soil status for cultivating the suitable crop and to maintain record of all their expenditures and incomes to calculate profit and loss.
Special guest Sanizo Nienu DAO, Peren spoke of different farming methods and how the farmers can increase their efficiency. He also stressed on dignity of labour, management of time and resources and cautioned them to maintain work culture always even in their respective fields as people who are employed in office. Concluding remark was delivered by Chair person Dr Patu K Zeliang.
During the interaction programme, council chairman of other villages, farmers, youth leaders including women farmers shared their observations and views regarding different crops, training programme capacity building and practical demonstrations conducted and also to be taken up in the future. After the programme, farmers were taken to the field to see the performance of the TS Toria variety so that they could witness the characters and attributes of the standing crop in the Field itself.
A total of 75 farmers attended the day long programme.
