Pughoboto, October 1 (MExN): Keeping in mind the need to encompass greater learning outside book knowledge and provide platforms for the young people with special talents, a group of like-minded young intellectuals under the banner of ‘Beyond Books’ hosted the first ever inter-school literary competition in Pughoboto sub-division, for both the high schools and middle schools, on September 29.
The idea was initiated by the local MLA Vikheho Y. Swu, who is also the chairman of ‘Beyond Books’, which is the fifth programme launched under LADP (2013-17) as part of Thuwu-Ni Pughoboto Initiative.
Altogether, 13 schools participated with about 100 students fighting tooth and nail for the championship. The competitions included quiz, solo, duet, essay, prepared speech, basket making, spelling bee and drawing for the high schools and middle schools respectively. The judges for the competitions were Zubemo Humtsoe, Reimaya Muinao and Thejaseitzo.
Dr. Hotokhu Chishi, Joint Director, Health and Family Welfare, graced the inaugural programme as the chief guest. He exhorted on the importance of education as a means to making men and women good human beings, adding education should include values and learning outside book knowledge.
Avelu Ruho, ADC Pughoboto, who is also the vice chairperson of ‘Beyond Books’, gave a brief report on the working of ‘Beyond Books’ so far. She also emphasised on the need for greater learning and dedication from both the teachers and students as well.
Invocation was done by NCRC youth secretary Pito Swu and the benediction for the inaugural programme was done by SABAK youth coordinator Sulito Swu. Chumbenthung Ezung, SDO Civil Pughoboto gave away the prizes.
