Nagaland is all set to host an exhibition football match featuring Bhaichung Bhutia and Renedy Singh on March 11 at the DDSC Stadium, Dimapur. The two former captains of the Indian football team will lead United Sikkim FC against a local side— Western Sümi Sports Association (WSSA) XI.
The Match for a Cause will be a promotional event of a collaborative project, between the Western Sumi Sports Association and entrepreneurs, among which includes Alobo Naga, YouthNet and Chothao Rakho of Atoqa Tea Production Co Ltd, to develop grassroots football in Nagaland. As announced by the mission planners on March 1, the first step would be to train coaches targeting the under-14 category.
Alobo Naga, Director of Musik-A, told a press conference, today, that the plan is to train football coaches, all expense paid, who would be utilized to develop under-14 football, starting at the villages. The selected individuals will undergo coach training programme under professional guidance in Siliguri.
He informed that the match will be followed by an entertainment programme, at the same venue, featuring artistes, including him, Dreamz Unlimited, NK Naga, and Zuchobeni Tungoe. The tickets for the event have been priced at Rs 200 and Rs 1,000 (donors) and are available at Nagaland Coffee, Herbs & Spices, and YouthNet office, Diphupar. It was also informed that any person, not in the mood to get the ticket physically, may contact Musik-A.
Only limited number of tickets will be printed, he said, while adding that the tickets would be sold at the venue if they are not already sold-out. He also informed that other entrepreneurs and interested individuals and organizations are welcome to collaborate.
The WSSA Vice President, Mughapu V. Yeptho, said that, if not for the lack of platform, football is in the Naga DNA. He informed that the training programme for coaches will be for a period of six months. The coaches, after completing the training, will be assigned to train young players.
According to him, the government of Nagaland is doing enough for promoting sports and that the WSSA is planning to reach out to the government with collaboration in mind.
On this, Alobo was also of the opinion that the government is doing enough, as far as sports is concerned, only that one should put in effort and not only wait.
Nune Chase, Director of YouthNet, Chothao Rakho and Simon H. Jyrwa of Atoqa Tea Production Co Ltd were also at the press conference.
