Bhandari: MLA Kikon proposes Integrated Farming System

Bhandari, July 17 (MExN): The monthly SDPDB meeting for Bhandari, Wokha was held at the Summer House-cum-Guest House on July 16. MLA and Chairman SDPDB Bhandari, and Chairperson, Committee on Environment and Climate Change, Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Achumbemo Kikon, chaired the meeting, stated a DIPR report. 

Proposed for Integrated Farming System between the departments of Veterinary, Horticulture, and Agriculture, in Bhandari sub-division, Kikon stated that it will result in enhanced sustainability, improved resource utilization and increased profitability to boost local economy and employment for farmers all year long.

He asserted that Bhandari sub-division has a huge potential for meat supply through cattle and other livestock rearing initiatives.

In the meeting, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, Merapani, Dr Kikali, informed the house that all Livestock and Poultry entering from Assam need to be inspected and examined for Vaccination history, signs of illness, and health certifications at the Dispensary-cum-Quarantine check post Merapani, before entry to Nagaland.

She highlighted that despite existing challenges in regard to Veterinary dispensary and staff quarter, the department has extensively conducted awareness and vaccination Campaigns throughout the sub-division on animal and poultry health, diseases out break and preventions, etc.

In the meeting SDO (Civil) Ralan & BM Uriamghat highlighted that the District Administration Sarupathar, Border Magistrate, Forest Officials and Police from Assam along with CRPF has been conducting door to door survey at Sector C of Disturbed Area Belt (DAB) under Ralan Sub-division without any intimidation to the Border Magistrate Uriamghat, Nagaland, which has created fear and apprehension in the minds of the Naga and other tribal people living in the Sector C of DAB.

He further stated that there are four government recognised Naga Villages in the Sector C of DAB.

MLA and Chairman SDPDB, Kikon, apprised that a Medical team led by MLA 9th Kohima Town Assembly Constituency, Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhütso (Dr Ato)  will come and stationed at CHC Bhandari, on July 28, as part of the Chief Minister’s Mobile Operation Theatre, which was launched on January 26, 2025.

Stating that the programme is for the purpose of delivering advanced surgical and healthcare services to rural and remote areas of Nagaland, and equipped with state-of-the art keyhole surgery capabilities,  he urged the medical department, Bhandari to assist in availing the facilities which will be provided free of cost.

The house also discussed on the ongoing farming activities at the Nagaland State Seed Farm Merapani, and work progressing on the Nagaland Foothill Road Construction.

In a separate meeting which was chaired by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, and Vice Chairman SDPDB Bhandari, Longasen Lotha NCS, work distribution was allotted amongst the departments in preparation for the upcoming Independence Day Celebration  2025.

On the same day MLA and Chairman SDPDB Bhandari, Kikon also inaugurated a Community Hall at Lio Longidang village which was newly constructed under UDAP, DUDA 2024-2025.
