The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) and the North-East Frontier Railway are set to launch its first Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train on May 27 under the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,’ initiative covering the religious locations of Ayodhya, Shree Mata Vaishnodevi, Prayagraj and Varanasi. 

As Dimapur houses a sizeable Hindu population, the train carriage will also make a pit stop at the station (04:45 PM departure) en route to its destinations. The entire tour will span for 10 nights and 11 days.

This was announced by IRCTC officials during a press conference held at Dimapur Railway Station on April 11. 

Sawma Khobung, Chief Supervisor of Tourism, mentioned that the designated train with 14 coaches and capacity of 780 passengers was specifically launched to promote tourism from the region and will begin its boarding from Dibrugarh train station (8:00 AM departure). 

The other stations where passengers can board and de- board are Simaluguri, Mariani, Lumding, Guwahati, Rangiya, New Bongaigaon, New Coochbehar, New Jalpaiguri, Katihar, Barauni J, Hajpur and Sonpur.

Khobung mentioned that accommodation, meals and sightseeing will be taken care of by IRCTC as well.  The Bharat Gaurav will consist of 3 AC class for Rs 31,135 and sleeper class coaches for Rs 20,850. 

Unarmed security guards will also be deployed in every coach to ensure that the passenger belongings are kept safe and no unauthorized passenger board the special tourist train. Every coach will have its own dedicated escorts to cater to every need of the passengers.

He further added that those booking their tickets through online from the IRCTC website (www.irctctourism.com) will also have the facility of EMI through Paytym, Razor Pay and Bajaj.
